Little Rock Golf Guide
On the Arkansas River in Central Arkansas, Little Rock is both the capital of the state and the place former President Clinton and his family lived for more than 15 years. It's also where Clinton played golf, sometimes at the RTJones-designed Chenel Valley Country Club, sometimes at the Country Club of Little Rock set on a magical site on Pulaski Heights overlooking the city. Both are private, but Clinton also teed up at the public Rebsamen Park Golf Course.
Often called "a city in a park," there are a lot of green spaces in and around Little Rock including parks and golf courses. Because the terrain in the area is varied, public and municipal courses in Little Rock span a range of styles from older courses featuring roll-up greens and mature parkland-style tracks like the municipal in-city courses Rebsamen and its adjacent nine-hole executive course.
Also in the city are the user-friendly muni Hindman Park course with its challenging ups and downs and War Memorial Golf Course where you can play 18 holes or just putt on the park's greens.
Some like StoneLinks evoke a wee bit of Scotland - lots of sand, water pot bunkers and wind but few trees while and the two Burns Park Golf Courses run along the river.
One of the more interesting facilities is The First Tee of Central Arkansas created to make the game accessible to all kids regardless of income status. The Chairman's Course is a nine-hole layout while the Honors Course is a full 18. Green fees on all the Little Rock public tracks are extremely reasonable.
Off-course there is a vibrant buzz to the River Market District with its restaurants, hotels, lofts, shops and a farmers' market. Climb aboard the three decker Arkansas Queen paddleboat for a dinner or sightseeig cruise along the Arkansas River or visit the new William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park and pick up something autographed by Clinton for sale in the store.
